FARMERS & POLITICS
PARTICIPATION AFTER THE WAR IN RECONSTRUCTION PERIOD. PROPOSED BY AUCKLAND COUNCIL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) i AUCKLAND, This Day. Adopting unanimously a report by a | special committee, the Auckland council of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union decided upon a definite course of political action after the war. The report expressed the belief that participation in politics would be necessary and inevitable in the post-war period of reconstruction. It recommended an intensification of present endeavours to consolidate under one central body all farmers’ organisations concerned with the processing and marketing of primary produce, and immediate action to organise farmers' opinions in readiness for direct political action in the postwar period. The president. Captain Rushworth, thought it would be worse than useless to attempt anything in the Auckland province unless a Dominion front were organised. No action would be taken in Auckland unless the proposals were approved by the Dominion Conference.
