AMERICAN NAVY
APPOINTMENT OF ADDITIONAL VICE-ADMIRALS. TO CARRY OUT IMPORTANT MISSIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 22. The House Naval Committee, acting at the Administration's request, approved legislation authorising the creation of additional vice-admirals to command special “task forces," to carry out important, sea missions. Admiral Nimitz, Chief of the Navy Bureau for Navigation, told the committee he was not at liberty to disclose the missions. He agreed that it was conceivable that the bulk of the Navy at present in the Pacific might be split up in order to carry out special missions.
