Mr and Mrs W. J. Flaws, of Wright Street, Masterton. have received advice from their son, Noel, who has returned from Greece safe and well.
Mr A. Nixon has been appointed secretary of the Auckland Education Board in succession to Mr D. W. Dunlop, who has resigned. Mr and Mrs T. P. O'Neil Lansdowne, have received cable advice from their son, Phil, that he is “out of Greece safe and well.”
Mr and Mrs G. Clarke, of Masterton, have received a cable from their son, Bruce Clarke, of the 2nd New Zealand Echelon, stating that he is safe and well.
Mr H. Sturgeon, late custodian of the Masterton Park, has received an appointment at the Otaki Health Camp. He leaves Masterion next week to take up his new duties. Mr and Mrs J. R. Carswell, Matahiwi, have received a cable from their son. Mr Ken Carswell, of the New Zealand Middle East Forces, stating that he is safe and in good health. Mr Angus Mcßean, son of the Rev A. Mcßean and Mrs Mcßean. Ashburton. has been appointed to a position in the British Legation in Berne. Switzerland. He began his new duties in April. Mr R. G. Taiboys has been elected president of the Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association. He succeeds Mr W. H. Caiman, who has held office for 10 years.
After 351 years' service. 26 of which have been in command, with lhe Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited. Captain T. V. Hill, one of the best-known of the company's masters. has decided to relive on account of ill-health.
Mr W. K. Newnham, chief engineer of the Public Works Department, has been appointed Director-General of Works and Buildings of the R.N.Z.A.F.. and has been granted the temporary rank of group captain. Mr John Wood, C.M.G., who recently retired from the position of Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, has relinquished his honorary commission as group captain.
Looking fit and well after his four months' tour of the Middle East. Britain and North America, the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr R. G. Menzies. arrived at Auckland yesterday afternoon by the American Clipper from San Francisco. Mr Menzies was welcomed at the airport by Wing Commander H. C. Bevan. Military' Secretary to lhe Governor-General, whose guest he is during his stay in Auckland. and by the Acting-Prime Minister. Mr Nash, and the Minister of Industries and Commerce and Supply Mr Sullivan.
