Leg Broken. Mrs Emily Mofl'ct, Essex Street, Masteerton, was admitted to hospital yesterday afternoon with a broken leg. It is stated that Mrs Moffcl fell while leaving a business house in Queen Street. Her" condition is reported as being satisfactory. Maintenance Work. The footpath on the norihorn Waipoua River bridge in Queen Street is receiving attention. Borough workmen are laying a new bitumen and chip metal path. Similar maintenance work is being carried out in other parts ol the borough. Medical Board Sittings. Sittings of Hie local examining medical board will be held al the Masterion Drill Hall next Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday, commencing al 10 a.m. A sitting was held this morning when a number of men were examined. Fatally Injured. Fatal injuries were suffered yesterday by a railway surfaceman. Mr R. J. Terry- married, of 383 Botanical Road. Palmerston North. He was working on a sei of lines in the railway station yard at Palmerston North when he was knocked over by a rake of trucks during shunting operations. The wheels passed over his right leg. He was rushed to hospital, but died later.- Deceased was 45 years of age. Home Guard Membership. By 42 votes to 22 the Auckland .Provincial Conference of the New Zealand i Farmers' Union yesterday favoured, making it compulsory for al! eligible; men to join the Home Guard. The conference also favoured compulsory attendance at parades. An amendment that compulsion should apply only to youths from 16 years of age to Territorial age was lost, also an amendment that all eligible mon bo posted Io Home Guard or E.P.S. organisations.
