The attendance at the Home Guard parade, held on Tuesday night was only fair. Owing to the rather frosty weather conditions which prevailed, ■proceedings opened with a route march, which was followed by trigger pressing, company and rille drill. A lesson and hand grenades and first aid was held and finally physical training. As members have taken the oath of allegiance, they are urged to attend more regularly and so help the guard to become efficient. There is now, owing to impressment, plenty of rifles, so that members will be well equipped in this direction. Another all day parade will be held on Sunday, when members will assemble at the Town Hall at 10 a.m., after which field exercises will be held. Members are reminded to bring their drinking utensils. Sgt. Instructor J. H. Buck, accompanied by Platoon Sgt. F. Clark, visited the Kahutara-Pihautea Home Guard last night when instruction in physical training and in arm drill was given. The Guard is to be congratulated upon its attendance as the men are very keen to do their bit and realise they have definite responsibilities to fulfill. Airman Entertained. The many friends gathered at the Anzac Hall last night to entertain Aircraftman A. Leslie Hodder, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Bert Hodder, Underhill Road. Dancing formed the major part of the programme, the music for which was supplied by Mrs H. J. Moran. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr C. F. Buck, and Miss Grace Fraser obliged with an extra. The Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, wished Mr Hodder a safe and quick return. He, presented him, on behalf of the Patriotic Committee, with an envelope containing money and expressed the good wishes of the committee. Mr Card was also asked to present a parcel from neighbours and friends of Underhill Road. Mr Hodder returned thanks for the gifts and the social evening. Women’s War Service Auxiliary. The secretary of the Red Cross has submitted a list of its members, who are kindly asked to complete forms as soon as possible, in order to assist with the compiling of the register of the Women's War Service Auxiliary. The Red Cross Rooms were open today and will be tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m., and 7 to 8 p.m.. when it is hoped that those who have not yet completed enrolment cards, will do so. Electoral Roll.

The Electoral Office, which is situated at the Officers' Room in the Anzac Hall, has made a start with purging the roll. Citizens are advised to notify any changes to Mr J. A. Halpin who is in charge, assisted by Miss Edna Wilkinson. Peggy Squares.! The. energetic members of the Featherston Table Tennis Club have decided to knit “peggy squares" for patriotic purposes, during the interval between games. It was thought that all could participate in this effort and enjoy watching the games as well. The peggy squares, when sewn together, could be utilised as blankets or covers, which no doubt would prove very useful. The young people of the district are certainly rising to the occasion and deserve the greatest praise for their forethought and enterprise. Recently the Featherston Swimming Club donated the sum of £8 towards patriotic purposes, the net proceeds of a carnival held towards the end of their season, which amount was supplement from their funds. Here again this club, which is run entirely by young people, works together and hold weekly dances in order that it may help not only its own club, but patriotic work. Another of their popular dances will be held on Saturday night in the Officers' Room, at the Anzac Hall when a good attendance is anticipated.
