HOSPITAL MATRON
MISS BARNETT’S RESIGNATION. APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. The resignation of the Matron of Masterton Hospital, Miss M. F. Barnett, was received with regret at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board yesterday afternoon.. The secretary-manager, Mr Norman Lee, submitted Miss Barnett’s resignation. He stated that Miss Barnett had been appointed to assist Miss Lambie, of the Department of Health in connection with the care of sick and wounded soldiers. Miss Barnett expressed her appreciation of the consideration and .courtesies she had always received from the board. “Every member of the board is very, very sorry to learn that Miss Barnett will be leaving us." said the chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley. He felt sure that members of the hospital stall would feel the same. Although Miss Barnett had only been a comparatively short time with the hospital she had proved exceedingly efficient and popular. • “Il is a great loss to the board.” observed Mrs S. Fletcher. “Miss Barnett was chosen as the outstanding woman in New Zealand.” said Miss McKenny. The position demanded high qualifications. which all knew Miss Barnett possessed. It was with deep satisfaction that she knew Miss Barnett would make a great contribution to the needs of the nation. Mr J. F. Thompson added his tribute to Miss Barnett’s capabilities. It was decided to place on the board's records appreciation of Miss Barnett's services. Five applications were received for the position. The board discussed the new appointment in committee. It was decided to forward three applications to the Health Department for its recommendations. The finance, committee. Mesdames T Robertson. Fletcher. Miss Barnett and • Dr. Parr were appointed a committee to make an appointment following upon receipt of the Department's opinion.
