Contradiction of Enemy Reports AXIS COLUMNS DRIVEN BACK ACROSS FRONTIER DAMAGING R.A.F. ATTACKS ON TRANSPORT AND TANKS I.OXDOX. May 19. In North Africa no change is reported in the T'obruk area. South of Solium, two enemy columns which crossed the Egyptian frontier withdrew after being engaged by the forward elements cf British mechanised forces. British troops are still in Solium, in spite of German claims to have retaken it. Considerable activity by the R.A.F. is reported, enemy transport, tanks and other targets having been attacked. Much damage is believed to have been done. A new attack on German aircraft in Syria is reported. Planes were attacked at Damascus and Rayak. Objectives in Iraq have also been attacked and an enemy aerodrome at Calato, on the Island of Rhodes, was raided on Saturday night.
