The Governor-General and Lady Newall have consented to accept office as patrons of the Royal Society of New Zealand for the Health of Women and Children, or the Plunket Society. Miss C. M. Wilson, Eketahuna, is on a visit to Wellington.
Mrs T. Jordan, The Terrace, Lansdowne, has been spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs Gorringe, Mangaweka, is staying with her mother, Mrs W. A. Todd, Lansdowne.
Mr and Mrs E. M. Hodder and family, Second Street, Lansdowne, are staying at Paraparaumu Beach. Miss L McKenzie, Renall Street, Masterton, is spending a few days in Wellington. The Misses Daniell, Albert Street, Masterton, are visiting Paraparaumu Beach.
The widow of a former mayor of Foxton, Mrs S. A. Simpson, died at Marton this week, aged 79 years. Born in England, Mrs Simpson was brought to New Zealand with her parents when she was two years old. She lived first in Thames, when that district was largely undeveloped, then Oroua Downs, Foxton and Palmerston North.
