British Success m Limited Operations SERIOUS CASUALTIES INFLICTED ON. ENEMY AIR AND OTHER OPERATIONS IN MIDDLE EAST LOX DOX, May Hi. General Wavell’s forces have captured Solium, which the Germans occupied on April 23. A communique from Cairo states that as the result of limited operations carried out by covering- troops Solium was captured yesterday and serious casualties were inflicted on the enemy. A number of German prisoners were taken. Solium has changed hands four times in a little over eight months. The British forces also captured a point 12 miles west of Solium, just inside Cyrenaica, as well as Hell Fire Pass. Nazi Planes Destroyed R.A.F. RAIDS ON AERODROMES IN GREECE German occupied aerodromes in Greece were raided on Wednesday night. Large fires were started on the aerodromes and a considerable number of enemy planes were destroyed. During a German raid on Crete on Tuesday and Wednesday, two Messerschmitts and six other planes were destroyed by British fighters. Malta was again raided yesterday and the previous night. Slight damage was done to R.A.F. property and a number of civilian houses were destroyed. From all these operations in the Middle East, two British planes are missing-. A small force of Italian bombers yesterday attacked Cyprus. Little damage was done and there were very few casualties.
