FEILDING SALE VALUES STEADY AT LATE RATES. STRONG DEMAND FOR BEEF. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, May Id. Values in all sections of the Feilding sale today were steady at late rates. Another good clearance at auction resulted. Fat sheep: Ewes were in heavy supply, and whereas good quality lines sold freely, the demand for unfinished lots was slew. Wethers and lambs were unchanged. Prime wethers made 23s 4d to 245; light, 20s to 22s 4d; extra prime ewes, 14s 6d 1;o IGs Id; prime. Ils lOd to 13s 4d; unfinished, 7s Id io 10s Cd; prime maiden ewes, 24s Id; prime lambs, 21s 7d to 22s 4d; light, 17s 7d to 20s Id. Store sheep: All lambs sold readily at slightly increased prices. Good quality two-tooth ewes were also dearer. Best ewe lambs made 21s Gd io 21s 9d; small, 19s 9d; good b.f. lambs, 16s lOd to 19s; others, 14s 4d to 15s 7d; good wether lambs, 17s 8d to 17s lOd; second quality, 12s lOd to 15s 6d; very good two-tooth ewes, 33s lOd to 34s 9d; others, 295.
Store cattle: A lighter entry of cattle was a little easier in values. A fair demand resulted for all forward lines. Best 2J-year A.A. steers made £7 to £7 125.; others, £5 to £6 15s; 20-month steers and heifers, £3 18s; cows with calves, £4 7s; empty cows, £5 4s; backward empty heifers, £2 'l7s 6d; yearling Jersey heifers, £3 to £4 ss; works cows, £2 10s to £3 16s. Dairy cattle: Good quality springing heifers met with a fair demand. Early calvers made £8 to £9 2s Gd: others, £4 15s to £7 7s.
Fat cattle: Beef prices were steady, with a strong demand. Prime A.A. heifers, £7 12s 6d to £8 17s 6d: lighter prime, £6 7s 6d to £7: ex-dairy heifers, £4 5s to £5 17s 6d; prime cows, £7 12s 6d to £8 17s 6d; lighter, £6 12s to £7 2s 6d; ex-dairy, £3 15s to £6 ss; light steers, £5 12s 6d; runners, £3 12s 6d to £5 7s 6d.
Pigs: No change was shown in the prices for pigs. Small weaners made 3s to 8s; small slips. 10s to Ils 6d; stores. 15s to 225; light porkers, £1 15s. SALE AT CARTERTON PRACTICALLY TOTAL CLEARANCE. LATE VALUES REALISED. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report as follows: — A good yarding of sheep, cattle and pigs came forward at our Carterton sale yesterday. Prices were on a par with late sales, and practically a total clearance resulted: — Sheep.—Fat ewes, 9s to 10s; fat hoggets, to 19s Id; forward ewes, to 7s; b.f. hoggets, to 15s; ewe hoggets, to 225: shorn wether hoggets, to 12s 6d. Cattle. —Cows on drop, to £11; Ayrshire cows on drop, £9 5s to £lO 15s; Ayrshire cows, just calved, to £7 10s; Jersey heifers on drop, £7 5s to £8 ss; prime fat heifers, £7 to £8 12s Gd; fat cows, £5, £5 12s, £6 to £6 15s; forward cows, £3 10s to £4 16s; store cows, £2 to £3 3s; cull cows, 20s to 355; cows and calves, £4 12s 6d to £5; 18-months P.A. heifers, to £2 Us. Pigs.—Baconers, to £3 7s; porkers, 34s to £2 ss; light porkers, 27s to 335; store pigs, 19s to 255; slips, 12s to 15s; weaners, good 8s to 10s 6d, medium Gs to 7s 6d, small 4s to 5s Gd; choppers, to 14s.
