FAREWELL SOCIAL
METHODIST CHURCH MEMBERS ENTERTAINED. GATHERING IN MASTERTON I,AST NIGHT. There was a large and representative gathering in the Methodist Sunday School rooms. Masterton, last night when Mr and Mrs J. H. Handyside and Mr and Mrs J. A. Wellington were farewelled. The Rev. IT. S. Kings presided. A programme ■of games and competitions was directed by Mr Alan Barnes. Musical and elocutionary items were given by Mesdames F. J. Traynor. Snowsill. Dickson and Misses J. Douglas and D. Jamieson. , Tribute to the personal qualities of the guests of the evening was paid by Dr. N. 11. Prior. Messrs F. E. Wells. E. M. Hodder, Barns, D. Shoosmith and Miss Bennington, representing the various departments of the church. Miss V. Jackson presented beautiful shoulder sprays to the lady guests. Mrs Prior, representing the Ladies’ Guild, presented Mrs Handyside with an art dressing-table set. Mr Kings, on behalf of the church, presented Mr and Mrs Wellington with a fireside chair, and Mr and Mrs Handyside with a crystal reading lamp. The recipients suitably replied. Musical honours were accorded the guests, and after supper tlie singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought to an end a most enjoyable evening.
