MEMORIAL PARK

ADMINISTRATION BY COUNCIL DESIRED.

RESOLUTION PASSED BY TRUST ANNUAL MEETING.

"It is the opinion of this meeting of Trust voters that it would be an advantage to the community that Memorial Park2be2taken over and administered by the Masterton Borough Council." was a resolution which was carried unanimously at the annual meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust last night. Referring to this matter, the chairman. Mr H. P. Hugo: "An effort was made by your trustees, during the year for the transfer of the Memorial Park to the care of the Borough Council. We felt that better and more use should be made of the park, and at the same time we did not think that it was the Trust job (o put this wonderful asset into proper playing order. We had neither tools or labour to carry tlie necessary work out and wo felt that the Borough Council, having the necessary labour were the right body to undertake this work. Your trustees made a very generous offer to the council but unfortunately we were unable Io come to terms. As far as the Trust is concerned it is still prepared to negotiate."

Many speakers expressed the view that the provision of adequate sports grounds was the duly of (he borough council.

"I cannot understand why the council refused the Trust's generous offer, in the interests cl' the community." said Mr J. H. Cunningham. “The council doesn't look ahead. It only thinks of today," said Mr C. E. Grey.

Messrs E. G. Coddington. J. H. Cunningham. and F. C. Daniell were appointed a deputation, with power to add, to wait on the borough council regarding the matter.
