ACTIVATED CARBON
PRODUCTION IN AUSTRALIA. ESSENTIAL COMPONENT OF GAS MASKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 1.30 p.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. Activated carbon, an essential component of gas masks, which is made in Australia for the fighting' forces, is now being produced from coconut shells by a local company in its New South Wales factory. When continuity of supplies of activated carbon from overseas was threatened, the company erected a factory and took steps to secure supplies of coconut shells from the islands.
