POLLING TOMORROW
LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS ISSUES IN WAIRARAPA. POINTS FOR MUNICIPAL VOTERS. Voting will take place tomorrow for the election of local body representatives in the Wairarapa. in common with other parts of New Zealand. In the Wairarapa polls are necessary for the return of borough councillors in Masterton. Greytown. Martinborough and Eketahuna. for the election of three Masterton borough representatives on the Wairarapa Hospital Board and in county areas, for the return of four representatives of the West Riding of the Eketahuna County Council and three Eketahuna County representatives on the Tararua Power Board: for three representatives of the East Riding of Mauriceville County Council and for the Wairarapa South County Council representative on the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. Elsewhere no polls are necessary. Polling will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. In Masterton, where there are 14 candidates for eleven seats on the Borough Council and four candidates for three borough representatives on the Wairarapa Hospital Board, the polling booths are: — Municipal Hall (principal), Lansdowne School. Phillips Butchery Shop, Perry Street. Central School. Wairarapa College. Mrs Southey’s garage, corripr Colombo Road and Worksop Road. Points for electors at the municipal poll are: — Method of voting: Mark a cross in the square set opposite to the name or names of candidates for whom it is desired to cast a vote but be careful not to exceed the number of vacancies to be filled. Check up the number of your crosses on each issue to make sure before leaving the inner compartment. (Note that, the previous method of voting by striking out names is now discontinued). Who may vote: (a) Those whose names appear on the Ratepayers' Roll or Residential Roll (main or supplementary).
(b) Those who are legally qualified to have their names placed on the roll, and when the roll was closed had reasonable cause to believe their names had been entered thereon. Those desiring to vote by this qualification must first sign a declaration before being given voting papers. The following have no vote: (a) Absentees; (b) Persons holding power of attorney; (c) Sick persons unable to attend a polling booth.
Number of votes: Each elector is entitled to one vote and no more. A person voting as occupier of a body corporate or association of persons cannot exercise an additional vote in his own personal right. ' Husbands and wives: The qualification 'possessed by a husband entitles the wife to be on the roll and vice versa, but both names must appear on the roll to enable both to a vote unless reasonable cause is shown that a name omitted should be included. It should be made clear to electors that because their names appear upon the Parliamentary Roll it does not follow that their names are on the Municipal Roll. Municipal rolls have no lation to Parliamentary rolls.
