POST OFFICE STAFF
WOMEN NOW BEING TRAINED. EIGHT ENGAGED AT MASTERTON. The war time problem of staffing and maintaining services as long as possible without impairment is being tackled by the Postal Department, which recently adopted the policy of employing women as temporary assistants for training, in anticipation of the time when it will be necessary for them to replace men required for military service. This policy has been implemented at the Masterton Post Office and the following ladies have commenced duty: Mrs L ,E. McCann, Misses D. M. Williams, P. L. Waters. J. E. Watkin, M. E. Jones. N. L. Hickler, M. P. Gill and V. C. Smith.
With the appointment of these ladies the department’s requirements in Masterton are satisfied for the time being but there are plenty of vacancies for female postal assistants in Wellington.
