HOME GUARD WEEKLY PARADE. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the weekly parade of the Carterton Home Guard held in the Showgrounds last evening. The guard.is becoming very efficient in its work. GOLF CLUB DRAW FOR COMPETITION. f — The following is the draw for a fourball Stableford, competition to be played on Saturday:—From No. 1 tee: Steel and Knutson v. A. Pankhurst and Jackson; Dudson and Court v. Goodin and W. Knowles; Brown and Lawrence V. Johansen and Barrett. From No. 3 tee: Hughes and G. Pankhurst v. Whitburn and Colson; Booth and M. Knowles v. Fisher and Broadbent; Forbes and Candy v. Smart and Hill. From No. 17 tee: Taylor and Harry v. Clarke and Callender; Riggs and Nicholls v. Harrington and Tankersley; Dwane a bye. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MATARAWA-DALEFIELD MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Mata-rawa-Dalefield Women’s Institute was held in the Matarawa School. The president, Mrs Neilson, presided over a good attendance of members. Two new members were elected. Mrs Callister read the report on the patriotic work and Mrs Groube reported on the Federation meeting held in Masterton on April 30. Mrs Loftus and Mrs A. Knutson judged the competitions and were presented with shoulder sprays. The competitions resulted as follows: —Senior: Best flower: Mrs W. Knowles, 1; Mrs A. Goodin, 2; Mrs S. Gallon. 3. Gingernuts: Mrs G. Knowles, 1; Mrs S. Gallon, 2; Mrs W. Ticehurst. 3. Junior: Best flower: Misses J. Goodin, 1; B. Sadler, 2; J. Conwell, 3. Biscuits: Miss B. Knowles, 1; Miss V. Knowles, 2; Miss D. Sadler. 3. Altogether there were 401 b. of biscuits which will be forwarded to the A.A. Club, Wellington. Mrs Loftus gave a very interesting address on bandaging which was much appreciated by members. Afternoon tea was served' by the hostesses. New Tar Tank. The work of erecting the new tar tank at the Carterton gasworks has been completed, having been carried out in an excellent manner by the staff of Messrs Knutson and Jamieson. The new tank is a much bigger one than the old one.
Personal Items. Mr and Mrs W. Lorenzen, of Raglan, are visitors to Carterton and are staying with Mrs C. Lorenzen Senr., Seddon Street. Dance at Belvedere. A dance will be held in the Belvedere Echoolroom on Friday night. Soldiers to be Entertained. The Carterton and district soldiers’ committee will entertain a number of soldiers on Thursday night at the King’s Theatre. Music for dancing will be supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra. The Mayor will address the men who will each be presented with a gift from the citizens. Girl Guides. Members of the Carterton Girl Guide Troop under Captain Edmonds, yesterday cycled out to Dalefield with the intention of visiting the Kaipotangata Falls. The girls got part of the way to their destination, but found that the conditions were unsuitable and abandoned the trip.
