ICELAND GRATEFUL
1 FOR PRESENCE OF BRITISH TROOPS. i ... CONDUCT CALLED NOBLE & GENTLEMANLY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 12. Five newspapers in Iceland commented on May 10 on the first anniversary of the British occupation, and showed satisfaction at .the good relations between the two nations and appreciation of the British willingness to listen to the Icelandic point of view. The “Timinn” said: “The behaviour of the soldiers has been noble and gentlemanly. They have tried to recognise and honour our national pride and patriotism.” The “Visi-r" says: “Our daily relations during the past year on the whole have been good. The British have shown their greatness by yielding to our wishes on many points. Nothing in the behaviour of the British has more evoked kindly feelings in the hearts of the Icelanders than the consideration that was shown to us on our national day. While the British forces stay here let us do our best to further the good relations.”
