LIEUT. C. E. ROGERS
TRANSFERRED TO WELLINGTON. SIXTEEN YEARS IN MASTERTON. Lieut. C. E. Rogers, N.Z.P.S., assistant area officer, Masterton, has received notice of his transfer to Headquarters. Central Military District, Wellington. He will be leaving Masterton on Saturday to take up his new duties. Lieut. J. J. McLeary, N.Z.P.S.. is taking charge temporarily at the Masterton Defence Office. Lieutenant Rogers, who has been stationed at the Defence Office in Masterton for the past sixteen, years, has had a long career with the army. His first association with the armed forces was in 1906, in the volunteer days, when he was for a period a member of the D Battery, a unit that had a recognised name for smartness and efficiency. After a time spent in Gisborne, Lieut. Rogers rejoined the D Battery, and in 1912 was posted to the permanent forces. He was stationed at Waipukurau, and on the outbreak of war joined the Wellington Mounted Rifles, leaving New Zealand with the Main Body. He was then posted to the Second Infantiw Brigade, and went to Sling Camp, England, and after taking a ’course of training there returned to New Zealand, and was stationed at Trentham Camp from 1917 until the end of the war. After the war he took up duty in Wellington, and in 1925 was posted to Masterton as a mounted rifle instructor and sub-area N.C.0.. taking, charge of the Wairarapa and Bush districts, a position he has held ever since.
