ASSAULTED FOR THIRD NIGHT IN SUCCESSION
Tremendous Load of Bombs Rained Down SHIPYARDS AND FACTORIES DEVASTATED FOUR BRITISH PLANES LOST LONDON, May 12. R.A.F. bombers last night further devastated Hamburg and Bremen. At Hamburg the Germans had not been given time to clear up from raids on previous nights when a tremendous load of incendiary and high explosive bombs was rained down on the targets. Many huge fires were left burning in the shipyard and industrial areas of both Hamburg and Bremen. The R.A.F. also made successful attacks on Emden, the docks at Rotterdam, targets in the Netherlands and a seaplane base on the island of Texel. The raids cost Britain four bombers. NAZI LOSSES Nine Raiders Shot Down on Monday Night MAKING 133 FOR FIRST ELEVEN NIGHTS OF MAY IT IS NOW KNOWN THAT NINE GERMAN BOMBERS WERE SHOT DOWN IN LAST NIGHT’S RAIDS OVER BRITAIN. BRINGING THE TOTAL IN THE FIRST ELEVEN NIGHTS OF MAY TO 133, WHICH IS 43 MORE THAN THE RECORD NUMBER ACCOUNTED FOR DURING THE WHOLE OF APRIL. Last night bombs were dropped over a wide area from towns in the north-east of England to villages in South Wales. The casualties were not heavy. Many R.A.F. aerodromes were attacked, but except at one or two points the damage was not considerable. There was little enemy activity over Britain in daylight today. Bombs were dropped at a point on the south-east coast. Little damage was done and there were no casualties.
