CROSSING SMASH

ACCIDENT AT RICCARTON MOTOR CAR WRECKED. MAN DIES FROM INJURIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. May 11. A man was killed and his son seriously injured in a level -crossing accident at Ricearton yesterday afternoon. The victims were: Killed. Clement Reid, aged 41. Injured. John Reid, his son. aged 14. Both were taken to hospital, where the father died some two hours later without regaining consciousness. The boy received injuries to the head and chest and his condition was reported this evening to be improving. Mr Reid and son were in a car which was struck in the middle by a railcar. The railcar. a new one on a trial rim. had no passengers. Mr Reid’s tourer car was wrecked.
