Enemy Forces Harried in Libya CONTINUED GOOD PROGRESS IN ABYSSINIA IN ROUNDING UP ITALIAN REMNANT LONDON, l\lay 11. A Middle East communique- reports further successes by the R.A.F. in Libya. On Friday and again on Saturday, British planes, defying an electrical storm, swooped down on Derna aerodrome and caused considerable damage to enemy aircraft. Many planes on the ground were effectively bombed. Large German troop-carrying aircraft at another aerodrome were bombed and damaged. A Messerschmitt 109 was destroyed as it was in the act of taking off. A number of other aircraft were machine-gunned. On land British patrols were again active in the Tobruk and Solium areas, where they continued to harass enemy forces and inflict further losses. A number’ of prisoners were also taken. In Abyssinia fighters and bombers of the South African Air Force continue to support the troops in rounding up the remnants of the Italian East African army. From all these operations two British planes are missing. British troops are advancing from the north and south towards Amba Alagi, where Italian forces numbering 30,000 are making their last stand. Indian troops have captured two further’ important points and taken ISO prisoners. The column advancing from the south has made further headway and inflicted serious casualties on the Italian defenders. In the southern districts of Abyssinia operations are continuing satisfactorily in all sectors.
