PEOPLE FROM COLONIES
CARE FOR THEIR WELFARE IN BRITAIN. APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL OFFICER. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 8. The Colonial Secretary, Lord Moyne, has appointed Mr J. L. Keith to the newly created post of Welfare Officer in the Colonial Office. Mr Keith will be concerned generally with the welfare in the United Kingdom of people from the colonies, protectorates and mandated territories with which the Colonial Office is concerned. Of such people there are considerable?numbers in many large towns. Some are permanently resident in this country. The number of temporary residents like students has recently been increased by the arrival of men for service in the armed forces or for employment ns skilled workers in munition and other factories. Mr Keith served the Colonial Office in Northern Rhodesia for 18 years and, after assisting Lord Hailey in the preparation of his African survey, joined the Social Services Department of the Colonial Office in 1939.
