BISHOP TO PAY
DAMAGES IN SLANDER ACTION. AWARDED TO CEMENT FIRMS. (By Telegraph—Press A.ssociation—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 9. Sixteen cement manufacturing companies have been awarded a total of .£1,600 against the Bishop of Birmingham in a slander action arising from a speech in which the bishop alleged that plaintiffs were curtailing production in order to keep up the price of cement. The Ijishop gave no evidence, but counsel on his behalf expressed unqualified regret for any defamation.
