SENT TO GAOL
ITALIAN SHIP SABOTEURS IN U.S.A. AMERICAN VESSELS CHARTERED TO CANADA. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) WASHINGTON. May 8. The captain Bersia. and the chief engineer. Novelle. of the Italian ship Villaperosa. were sentenced in New York to three years' gaol for violating the sabotage laws. Eight other members of the crew wore sentenced to 18 .mouths' gaol each. Twenty-five ships totalling 200.000 tons, belonging to the Alcoa Steamship Company, have been chartered to Canadian interests under President Roosevelt's 2,000.000-tons shipping pool plan to assist Britain.
