TAXATION IN EIRE
SOME HEAVY INCREASES. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) DUBLIN. May 7. The Minister of Finance. Sean O'Kelly, introduced in the Dail a Budget providing for a record expenditure of £40.000,000. It increases income tax by a shilling to 7s 6d with some incomes paying 15s in the pound. The profits tax is 50 per cent. Petrol duty is up live pence to Is 3d a gallon. The tobacco duty is up 5s Gd io ’lBs lOd in the pound. Duty on matches is doubled at 7s 4d a gross. Letter post is raised a half penny to 2.'.d. Racecourse and totalisator betting is 2.'. per cent. Telephone charges are increased 5 per eent. A new duty is imposed on Irish newspapers of one-third of a penny a copy and the duly on imported newspapers is increased from two-thirds of a penny to a penny a copy.
