“DEFEND YOUR OWN”

MR R. G. MENZIES SPEAKS ' TO AMERICANS j I I CHANCE OF SPEEDING i VICTORY GREAT BRITAIN NOT ASKING FOR CHARITY. "CAUSE OF THE COMMON MAN." (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. May 7. On his arrival at New York airport, the Australian Prime Minister. Mr Menzies, told the Press: "I am convinced that Britain cannot lose the war. though the speed of the victory depends on the United States. As Australian Prime Minister, I want to say quite frankly to the United States —it is up to you. You are not being asked to make a donation to a deserving charity. You are being asked to defend your own way of life. But you can do more than produce materials of war. You can. see that they arrive where they will do the most good.” Addressing the Canadian Club at Ottawa, Mr Menzies said: — “We shall win this war. I say that with supreme confidence. We British have the will and the men and the spirit. All we need is for the world to give us machines. “Our cause is also the cause of the United States and of all civilised people. It is not the cause of kings and prime ministers, of princes or potentates; it is the cause of the common man. The British people are not going to ask for peace; they are going to fight for peace."
