CARTERTON

MINIATURE RIFLES CLUB GOES INTO RECESS. ("Times-Age" Special.) There was a fair attendance of members of the Carterton Miniature Rifle Club at the annual meeting which was held last evening. The president, Mr D. Gayfer, presided. The annual report and balance sheet, the latter showing a credit balance of £3 7s lOd, were adopted. After discussion it was decided that the club go into recess until world conditions were more normal. Until the club was restarted, it was decided to leave its affairs in the hands of Messrs G. W. Busby, C. J. DeLacey and W. Press. It was agreed that the club’s belongings be removed from the State Theatre and kept in the custody of the secretary, until conditions altered. Mr H. Torrey was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for a donation to the club last season. The following delegates were appointed to attend the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Miniature Rifle Association: Messrs Porter, Press and Torrey. The secretary was authorised to arrange for the insurance of cups belonging to the club. A vote of thanks was accorded the secretary for his services during the past season. This was carried by acclamation. A vote of thanks was also passed to the “Times-Age” for publicity given to the club. Regret was expressed by members that it was necessary to go into recess during the war period. Some members of the club were already serving overseas and those in camp and others drawn in the present ballot numbered eight.

The troops left Carterton before daylight this morning pursuing the "enemy’’ south of Greytown and in the vicinity of Bidwill’s cutting and thence on to the Wairarapa Lake country. When the manoeuvres are finished in the Wairarapa the troops and their mechanised units, lorries, etc., will proceed over the Rimutaka ranges to the West Coast, where further manoeuvres will take place.
