AIR COMBATS
NAZI FIGHTERS ENGAGED OVER BRITAIN TEN SHOT DOWN IN TWO DAYS. SOME LOSSES SUFFERED BY DEFENDERS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Dav, 12.5 p.m.) RUGBY, May 7. An Air Ministry communique states: “Since dawn today, there has been considerable enemy activity off the south-east coast, and raiders have frequently been engaged by our fighters. As a result of these combats, six enemy fighters have been shot down and two of our fighters are missing. During daylight yesterday, four enemy fighters in all wore destroyed, two of them by fighters and two by anti-aircraft guns. Five of our fighters arc missing from yesterday’s operations, but three of the pilots are safe. It is confirmed: that anti-aircraft guns shot clown two more enemy bombers during the night of May 4, making a total of nine enemy aircraft destroyed during that night.”
