Mrs Margaret Johnstone, widow of the late Rev. William Johnstone, the first Presbyterian minister in Port Chalmers, died there on Sunday. She arrived from the Old Country by sailing vessel early in May, 1858, and celebrated her hundredth birthday on February 1 last. Since her arrival in New Zealand, Mrs Johnstone had spent the whole of her- life in Port Chalmers, where she was very well known. Very few film celebrities were among the 900 guests who witnessed the wedding ceremony, .when Deanna Durbin, 19-years-old film actress, was married in Hollywood to Vaughan Paul, a motion picture producer, who is 25 years of age. Among the invitations sent out were many to the studio’s workers, electricians, camera men, wardrobe women, carpenters and others. The wedding took place in the Methodist Episcopal Church. The bride, whose real name is Edna Mae Durbin, was born in Winnipeg, Canada, of British parents, who came from Manchester, and the British colony in Hollywood naturally evinced much interest in the wedding. The bridegroom’s parents are Mr and Mrs Vai Paul, his father being a motion picture executive.
