EXCESS PETROL

CHARGES IN MARTINBOROUGH TWO CONTRACTORS FINED. At a special sitting of the Martinborough Magistrate's Court yesterday £■ afternoon N. 11. Ramsden, carrier and contractor (trading as Ramsden and Kelly) was charged with having purchased on 12 occasions in January, a total of 438 gallons of benzine in excess of his full licence. Mr H P Lawry, S.M.. was on the Bench.

A similar charge was also brought against R. Chapman, contractor, the defendant having purchased 388 gallons of petrol in excess of his licence. The charges were laid under the Oil Fuel Emergency Regulations. Mr M. Blathwayt appeared for both defendants and entered pleas of not guilty, which he later amended to pleas of guilty. Detective-Sergeant W. Kane (Masterton) prosecuted.

After considerable legak argument and evidence had been heard, the defendants were each fined £lO and 10s costs.
