Christian Pacifists.

The trials of members of the Christian Pacifist Society for breaches of the Public Safety Emergency Regulations, were continued in the Supreme Court. Wellington. yesterday. Archibald Charles Barrington, secretary of the society, aged 34, was found guilty of publishing a subversive statement and attempting to conduct a prohibited meeting. He was remanded till Friday for sentence. The trial of Arthur Herbert Carman, bookseller, aged 38, commenced, but was not finished when the Court adjourned. Fire at Hospital. Fire damaged portion of the old wooden block of the Nelson Hospital yesterday morning. The outbreak occurred in upstairs storerooms above the isolation block, which was occupied by several patients. All these and patients in the adjoining ward 4 were removed safely from the building. Despite a strong south-westerly wind the brigade made a good save, confining the fire Io the eastern end of the building. Members of the fire section. Emergency Precautions Scheme, were in operation for the first time, and gave valuable assistance. The main hospital was not threatened, but the wards filled with heavy smoke. However, there was no confusion or alarm. The j hospital stall' used the emergency fire | fighting equipment, which assisted in ' keeping the flames in check’ till the arrival of the brigade.
