TESTING NAZIS IN TOBRUK AREA BENGHAZI AGAIN HEAVILY BOMBED. AT LEAST FIVE PLANES DESTROYED. LONDON, May 6. There is little change in the situation in Tobruk. Heavy sandffistorms and furnace-like heat are testing the endurance of German troops in the Tobruk area. The R.A.F. has heavily bombed Benghazi and landing fields in Cyrenaica. At least five enemy planes, one a large troop-carrying plane, were destroyed by fire. There is no news of today’s operations in Iraq. The R.A.F. is maintaining a constant patrol.

AMERICAN SHIPS NONE ARRIVED IN EGYPT YET. NORMAL FLOW OF SUPPLIES IN OTHER VESSELS. LONDON. May 5. The Cairo correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain reports that United States consular records disclose that no American ships have arrived at Egyptian ports since the Red Sea was removed from the combat zones. American war materials and commercial goods are arriving normally, but are carried in ships of other nationalities. A Vichy report at the weekend stated that 26 American ships had arrived in the Suez Canal.

IRAQ & GERMANY REPORTED RESUMPTION OF RELATIONS. HABBANIA GARRISON REINFORCED. LONDON, May 6. A Vichy message from Bagdad says that Iraq is reported to be resuming diplomatic relations with Germany. They were broken off in September. 1939. In Cairo it is reliably reported that British troops from Basra have reinforced the Habbania garrison in Iraq.

The Berlin radio says: "The Iriq Government has announced that it has rejected the proposal for mediation by a neutral country. Iraq is willing to negotiate only after the British have left Iraq. Anti-British tendencies in Syria arc growing daily and the local population is collecting money for Iraq. The British police have forbidden the population of Palestine to listen to the Iraq radio."
