MUCH STILL GOING TO JAPAN. CHINESE MINISTER’S APPEAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright! WASHINGTON. May 5. The Chinese Foreign Minister, Mr Quo Tai-chi, made a broadcast appeal to the United States to cease supplying Japan with weapons and fuel with which to bomb Chinese cities. Department of Commerce statistics reveal that Japan's purchases of oil from the United States have increased considerably in spite of the licensing system. Japan shipped 1,555,000 barrels of oil from America in March, and 1279,000 in February, and 1,491,000 in January. Officials say lhe Japanese have 20 Government-owned tankers plying to and from America. Experts here, analysing Japan’s oil position, declare it would bo hopeless if Japan were to fight, another nation.
