HOME GUARD
ACTIVITIES OF MASTERTON BATTALION LOCATION OF AREA OFFICE. TRANSFERS AND PROMOTIONS. The area office of the Wairarapa Area 7B of the Home Guard is now located at office of Lieutenant Raymond Lee, Queen Street and Lieutenant Lee has been appointed to take charge of the office in respect to Home Guard duties. Tomorrow night A Company will parade at the Drill Hall at 7 o’clock and C Company will parade at the Municipal Hall at the some hour. On Sunday both companies will assemble at the Hood Aerodrome at 8.15 a.m. B Company will parade at the Municipal Hall on Monday at 7 p.m. Transfers and promotions are announced as follow: — Transfer: Cpl. I. E. McChesney from A Co. to F Co. Promotions: H.Q. Co. Signal Platoon: R. M. Hancock to be platoon commander, T. Brown to be platoon sergeant, A. E. Wimms to be corporal. A Co. No. 4 Platoon: H. H. Mawley to be platoon sergeant, V. E. ponald, D. P. Donald and B. L. McCarthy to be corporals. B Co. No. 1 Platoon: C. Torr to be platoon commander, E. A. Urwin to be platoon sergeant, J. V. Gordon to be corporal, J. Haise to be lance-corporal. No. 2 Platoon: H. A. Harcombe to lie platoon commander, G. T. Wagg to be platoon sergeant, J. L. L. Wood to be corporal, J. H. Cunningham to- bn lance-corporal. No. 3 Platoon: C. K. Long to be platoon commander, E. E.. Downes to be platoon sergeant, P. C. McLaren to be corporal, H. A. Truman to be lance-corporal, J. J. Andrew to be Company Sergeant Major. D Co. Kopuaranga Platoon: M. 11. McKenzie to be platoon commander, J. C. Knight to be platoon sergeant, C. P. Jarrett, E. C. Cottle and F. D. J. Hewett, to be corporals. E Co. Mauriceville: G. Neilsen to be temporary platoon commander. F Co.: Corporal I. E. McChesney to be sergeant (Instructional Staff). The following rules and regulations have been drawn up governing the competition for the Hamilton-Irving Shield:—l.' For platoon competition only. 2. To be awarded every six months. 3. Points to be awarded at end of first period, (ending October 31, 1941) for (a) attendance, (b) rifle exercises, (c) platoon drill, (d) marksmanship. 4. Competing platoons to consist of not less than one sergeant and twenty-four other ranks. 5. Platoon to be controlled by platoon sergeant. 6. Platoon roll of each competing platoon to be produced and checked by the appointed judge, 7. Each company commander to nominate one platoon. 8. Final judging to take place on one specified ground, notice of such ground and time to be sent to all company commanders at least two weeks before date of judging. 9. The appointment of officer to act as judge to be made bj' battalion commander. 10. The awards .made by the appointed judge to be final.
