LATEST OFFICIAL FORECAST COLD & WET. IMPROVEMENT ON MONDAY. The following official weather report and forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon today:— FORECAST: Strong southerly winds; weather dull with intermittent rain. Temperatures cold, with some snow on the ranges. FURTHER OUTLOOK: Conditions slowly improving on Monday. LOCAL REPORT. ’ Masterton —Miss-A. M. Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today:—-Barograph. 30.02. Shade temperature: Maximum 71.4, minimum 47J. terrestrial 37.3. Sunshine, 7 hours 45 minutes. Rain. 14 points. Solway: Mr H. M. Boddington reports that 11 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 t a.m. today. The sun rose today at 7.9 a.m., and sets at 5.27 p.m. Phases of the Moon: First quarter, May 5, 12.49 a.m.; full moon, May 11, 5.15 p.m.; last quarter, May 18, 1.17 p.m.; new moon, May 26, 5.18 p.m. Solway Rainfall: Mr H. M. Boddington reports that rain was measured on 12 days in April, the maximum fall being 95 points on the 14th. minimum 1 point on the 6th and 30th; total for month. 2.60 inches, as against 3.27 (1940), 3.98 (1939), 9.96 (1938), 1.32 (1937). 2.52 (1936); average for 38 years. 2.90 inches. The total rainfall for four months was 14.02 inches, as compared with 9.78 (1940). 5.90 (1939), 21.09 (1938). 9.87 (1937), 19.65 (1936); average for 38 years, 11.06 inches.
