The Hon. H. T. Armstrong. Minister of Public Works, leaves Wellington tonight for the south. The Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Labour, left Wellington last night for the south. Messrs J. Duncan. W. Lamb, and Rushbridge (Wellington) are staying at the Midland Hotel. Mr F. W. Doidge, M.P. for Tauranga, is at present in Australia because of the illness of his mother who lives at Vaucluse, Sydney. Mr E. Caradus, Chief Inspector of Secondary Schools, has been appointed adviser on education to the New Zealand Naval Board. Major A. W. Reynolds, Masterton. left this morning for Palmerston North. He will act as umpire in the Territorial manoeuvres to be held in the Wairarapa next week. Mr W. J. Polson, M.P. for Stratford who has been on tour in the Waikato, has had to return to his home at Wanganui because of the illness of his wife. A pleasant function was held last night in the Wairarapa College hall in honour of Leading Boy Ronald Slatter, who is on leave in Masterton. A presentation was made on behalf of those present by the head prefect and musical honours were accorded the popular guest of honour. During the absence of the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, from New Zealand. the Minister of Finance. Mi Nash, will be Acting-Prime Minister Three of Mr Fraser’s portfolios, those involving the administration of the Legislative, Electoral and Audit Departments. will be taken over by Mi Nash. Mr Fraser is also Minister ir Charge of Police, and this portfolic will be administered in his absence by the Minister of Labour, Mr Webb. Leading Aircraftman Robert Lance Congreve, formerly of Wellington anc Wanganui, is reported missing, .believed killed, as a result of enemy ait action in England. He was formerly on the staff of the Post and Telegraph Department, and played football ir Wellington for the Oriental club anc’ cricket with the Kilbirnie juniors. jAt the outbreak of war. Leading Aircraftman Congreve was a member of the Territorial Air Force, and after periods of training at. Wigram and Blenheim, was stationed with the General Reconnaissance Squadron at Whenuapai before proceeding overseas with the R.N.Z.A.F. Pilot Officer K. R. Congreve. an instructor at Ohakea, is a brother.
