MASTERTON SALE
SUPPLEMENTARY CATTLE FAIR. Associated Auctioneers report on their weekly Masterton sale held in conjunction with the Second Autumn Cattle Fair held yesterday, as follows: A large entry of cattle, sheep and a special entry of horses were offered to a large attendance of buyers. The sheep sold under keen competition, there being a good demand in both store and fat sections, hoggets in particular making good values and sold on a slightly better market. One pen of good ewe hoggets after spirited bidding made 275. A total clearance of sheep was effected at prices which must be considered very satisfactory. Cattle: The cattle yarding was a large one and with the exception of a few top pens the quality was not up to that yarded at our previous fair. Although there were no outside buyers present there was a keen local demand and prices for all classes of cattle showed a good improvement on those ruling at our last fair. There was a scarcity of grown steers, there not being enough yarded to fill requirements, consequently these met with a spirited sale. One line of nicely bred P.A. 31yr steers offered on account of Mr C. Olliver topped the sale for the day at £9 ss, - while other medium P.A. 3Jyr steers made from £7 15s to £8 15s; 2iyr old steers made from £6 10s, £6 15s, to £7, while 18mos P.A. steers which were not well grown made from £5 to £6. Fat cattle also showed an improvement on late sale prices and the demand for 11- and 2J P.A. heifers was much better, these showing an improvement of from 10s to 15s per head. There were one or two passings during the day, but 'at the conclusion the whole of the cattle entered was sold. Horses: A special consignment of horses offered on account of Mr Nat Moore, of Canterbury, attracted much attention and for any attractive farm mares and geldings broken to all harness competition was good, prices ranging for young draught mares from £24, £25 to £26 10s; 4yr mares and geldings broken to chains made from £2O to £24 10s. while aged mares and geldings broken to all harness made from £l6, £lB to £l9.
