MEETING OF PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION ELECTION OF OFFICERS. “AT HOME” FUNCTION PROPOSED. There was an attendance of 26 parents at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa College Parents’ Association
held in the College library on Tuesday night. Mr A. Owen Jones presided. Prior to the commencement of business a motion of sympathy with Mrs A. W. Charleson and family in their bereavement was passed. Mr Charleson was secretary of the High School Parents’ Association for many years. Mr Jones stated that owing to conditions arising out of the war the activities of the Association had been curtailed. During the year a garage to house the College bus had been built by volunteer labour. The majority of the work had fallen on the ladies’ committee who had officiated at numerous school functions. Mr Jones referred to their willingness to assist at all times. “The present objective of the Association is to complete the assembly hall cloak rooms,” said Mr Jones. He would like to see the money in hand and set aside for that purpose. Several speakers expressed disappointment with the lethargic attitude of parents in general towards the association. It was pointed out that of 400 parents only 26 were present. It was decided to hold an “at home” in the assembly hall for parents immediately after the term holidays. The date would be fixed by the committee. The Principal, Mr G. G. Hancox, thanked the association for its assistance at school functions. It was gratifying to know that the association’s assistance was available when required. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr A. Owen Jones (re-elect-ed); secretary, Mr A. J. Towns (reelected); ladies’ committee, Mesdames G. Masters, G. C. L. Dickel, J. F. Jaine, A. J. Towns, J. A. Russell, G. Dallas, R. McPherson; J. Grey, and G. Permain; men’s committee, Messrs G. C. L. Dickel, S. V. Playstead, G. Masters, J. F. Jaine, A. L. Bennett, G.
Permain, A. Parsons, J. Grey, and A. Wiltshire; auditor, Mr E. R. Rogers. Annual Report. The annual report, signed by the president, Mr Jones, stated: “It was our intention to hold a gala day during the past year, the net revenue to go towards the completion of the dressing rooms, but on account of the many appeals being made for patriotic purposes the gala day was postponed indefinitely. The annual college ball was held and many expupils made their debut at this function. The ladies’ committee continued their good work in providing and assisting at various school functions during the year. The financial statement for the year ended March 31, 1941, shows a credit balance of £63. In conclusion I desire to convey my 'personal thanks to the hon secretary, Mr A. J. Towns, and members of the committee for their loyal co-operation during the year.”
