Radio Appeal.

By midnight last night the Anzac night radio-telephone oppeal on behalf of- patriotic funds had resulted in £.41,390 having been promised over the telephone throughout New Zealand, with more amounts still being promised. Throughout the country many telephone attendants, broadcasting officials and staffs of large offices recorded the contributions made. Card Evening. The fortnightly card evening sponsored by the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A., was held on Thursday evening, when, despite the evening being observed by the business houses as late night, a successful gathering was held. The prize-winners were:—Five hundred, Mr Swinn and partner: bridge, Miss Hogg and Mr Williams. Supper was served by members of the Auxiliary. Manoeuvres Next Week. More than 10,000 troops will be engaged next week in the Central Military District on the biggest manoeuvres held in New Zealand since the Great War. At least 1000 vehicles will be used, for the troops are lo be shifted over an extensive area. While this transport will make easy their movement from place to place, the actual engagements of the manoeuvres will 1 be in some of the most difficult conn-I try. Not only will there be hundreds of motor-vehicles but also a mounted I brigade of approximately 1000 horse
