HOCKEY UMPIRES
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION ARRANGEMENTS FOR SEASON. APPOINTMENT OF REFEREES. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Hockey Umpires’ Association was held in Masterton last evening. Mr G. W. Morice (president) presided over an attendance of 14 members. A motion of sympathy was passed to the Rev. Mayson in his recent bereavement. Two new members were elected. The annual report was adopted. The balance sheet showed a satisfactory credit. The election 'of officers resulted: — President, Mr G. W. Morice; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs J. Fisher, C. Spiers: auditor, Mr Filer; secretary-treasurer, Mr R. S. Moor; appointments, Mr A. Southey: examinations committee, Messrs G. Maloney, G. Hayne and J. Fisher; delegate to New Zealand Umpires' Association, Mr J. C. Cusack; delegate to Wairarapa Men's Association, Mr M. Worsfold; delegate to Wairarapa Ladies' Association, Mr C. Spiers. To assist the appointments Mr Fisher (Carterton and balefield). Mr Maloney (Greytown). Mr F. Staples (Featherston) and Mr Wilton (Martinborough) were appointed to find substitutes, if necessary, in the event of the umpires appointed' not being available in their respective districts. It was decided that the appointments committee submit three names to tho respective associations for each representative match, such association to choose one umpire from the names submitted for each match. A general discussion followed on rules. In one case a ruling is to be obtained from tho New Zealand Ladies' Association. It was decided to procure from the New Zealand Umpires' Association further copies of a booklet issued last season.
