OVERSEAS SERVICE
APPEAL BOARD SITTING WAIRARAPA APPLICATIONS. REQUESTS FOR ADJOURNMENTS AND EXEMPTIONS. The No. 4 Armed Forces Appeal Board concluded its first local sitting at lhe Masterton ..Courthouse yesterday afteimoon. Mr W. F. Stilwell, S.M., presided, there also being present Messrs A. Parlane and P. Coyle. Mr C. O. Bell represented the Crown. An application by Mary Knutson to have Maurice Edward Knutson, farm hand, released from military service until May 31 was agreed to. An appeal by Grace McLeod on behalf of Duncan Fraser McLeod, farm hand, was stood down until the reservist’s medical grading was to hand. Herbert Ernest Ward appealed for exemption from military service on behalf of his two sons. Stanley Herbert Ward, and Francis Edward Ward on lhe grounds of public interest and undue hardship. “What sacrifice are you prepared to make in this war? None at all!” said Mr Bell, Crown representative in crossexamining the co-appellant. In evidence Mr Ward stated that he was prepared to offer his services. The appeal for Francis Edward Ward was adjourned sine die, the reservist to have three months’ Territorial service after June 1. The appeal for Stanley Herbert Ward was dismissed. With the consent of Mr Bell, R. Dyson withdrew appeals for postponement of service on behalf of Allan Robert John Chisholm, farm hand and Bryan James Dick, farm manager. Both appeals had been lodged on the grounds of hardship. The following appeals on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship were adjourned sine die: — Edward Cornelius Wadham, on behalf of Athol Edward Wadham, farmer. Edmund Charles Todd, shcepfarmer (Mr R. R. Burridge). Margaret Flynn, on behalf of Robert Tuohy Flynn, farmer, the reservist to be eligible for Territorial service after May 30.
