TOBACCO SUPPLIES
VERY SHORT IN BRITAIN. SHOPS MAY CLOSE FOR PART OF WEEK. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. April 23. Tobacconists throughout Britain are considering closing their shops for part of the week as the result of a shortage of supplies. London retailers are limited to one-third of their peace time requirements, whereas the demand, particularly for cigarettes, has increased. The situation is worrying the manufacturers. Stocks at the outbreak of war were estimated as sufficient for two and a half years, but now only a year’s supply is left.
