ADDINGTON

OVERSUPPLY AFFECTS PRICES. ALL ROUND DECLINE IN VALUES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. April 22. At the Addington market today there was an over-supply of stock in the important sections, and as a result values eased, pronouncedly so in the case of heavy ewes. , Store sheep: About 15,000 head were forward, of which 4000 were lambs. Best lambs sold to 18s, but medium and inferior sorts were down by Is. The ewe entry included little of good quality apart from best ewes. Values were down by Is for secondary ewes, and by as much as 2s for failing-moutheds. Best Romney two-tooths sold to 31s 6d, and best fine-wool sorts to 235. Best four-year Romneys made to 18s, and fine wools to 13s. Lines of station wethers were forward, and these sold under fair competition. Fat sheep: A special train of 20-odd trucks of sheep arrived from southern provinces during the course of the sale, and these created an oversupply. Heavy plain ewes eased in value by 2s 6d to 3s, and light ewes, for which there was some export demand, and butchers’ ewes, sold at 2s a head less than a week ago. Wethers showed little change. Best wethers brought 27s to 325, medium to good 23s 6d to 26s 6d, and light down to 19s. Good ewes made from 17s to 21s, with a few tops going to 265. Medium-weight prime ewes made 13s 6d to 16s 6d, plain heavy 10s to 12s 6d, and light to 11s. The market showed the effect of the new limitation in freezing weights. Fat cattle: Six hundred and fortyfive head were entered in this section. Values were down by 20s to 25s for prime medium-weights, and from 25s to 35s for others. Best bullocks sold from £l4 10s to £lB, and medium £l2 to £l4; best heifers £lO to £l4; best cows from £9 to £l2 10s, light down to £5. Primest beef sold at from 36s to 38s 6d a 1001 b, medium 33s to 355, and inferior down to 255.

Fat pigs: Entries in both sections were smaller, but porkers were down in value by Is 6d a head. Little change resulted for baconers. Porkers made from 64d to 7d a lb. and baconers from 6d to 6?d.
