WOMEN’S DIVISION
PAHAUTEA ANNUAL REPORT. PATRIOTIC & OTHER WORK. (“Times-Age” Special.) The ninth annual report of the Pahautea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union, presented by the president, Mrs E. Ross, states: . '“I wish first of all to thank all officers and members for their help and co-operation during the year. I wish to especially thank Mrs Ness, our retiring secretary, not only for her work during my term of office but during the whole time she has held the position of secretary.JDwing to war conditions we did not hold our ‘usual birthday celebrations, but held a concert and dance for which our branch benefited to the sum of £7 2s 3d. Our special thanks are due to those ladies who contributed items to the concert. Our Easter dance this year comes too late to be included in this year’s balance sheet, so that our banking account has not had much of an uplift during the year. “The membership still remains at 14 senior and ohe junior member. One member left during the year and one new member joined. We regret to record the loss of an ex-member, Mrs Coe, whose death occurred suddenly at the beginning of the year. During the year we sent money to the Spitfire fund, the W.D.’s of New Zealand finding enough money for one machine.
“The ladies have knitted 37 articles for the Red Cross Society and have also sent 88 articles to the Lady Galway Guild, all the garments being sent in in good order. The branch has also given a small gift to each of the boys who have left the district to fight for their country and I am sure every member wishes them Godspeed and a safe return.
“Competitions were keenly contested during the year; the points prize resulting in a draw between Mesdames Connell and Corlet. Mrs Connell willingly withdrew in favour of Mrs Corlet. A prize was also given each month.' these being won by Mesdames Connell, Corlet, Sadler and Grant. “I wish to thank all members for their support and trust that during the forthcoming year one and all will work not only for the branch, but will put every effort possible into work to help those of our Mother Country, who are so nobly carrying on, and our lads who have gone forth to save their country from the hands of Nazism.”
