CARTERTON LIBRARY

REVIEW OF YEAR'S OPERATIONS. ("Times-Age" Special.) The annual report of the Carterton Public Library, presented to the annual meeting this week, recorded a successful year both financially and in increased membership. There was a credit balance of £72 10s 6d (£65 of this being a grant from the Borough Council paid in last week) and members’ subscriptions amounted to £96 19s. A sum of £BB 14s Id has already been paid for new books. The position was that the whole of the subscription had been spent on new books. The buying committee had endeavoured to cater for all classes of readers. The membership which now stood at 168 had shown a steady increase for the last five years. The reading room had been well patronised. It was suggested that the incoming committee give attention to the reading room and secure at least one South Island paper. During the year the committee decided to reduce the number of books issued toi two per member for 10s subscription,, to enable the books to circulate more quickly. This had had the desired effect. Satisfaction was expressed of the way in which the librarian had carried out her duties and the committee was thanked for its support during the year and the county and borough councils for their consideration.
