U.S.A. TROOPS
CONTINGENT REACHES MANILA LARGEST BEEN SENT TO ORIENT. INCREASED MILITARY EXPENDITURE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright' (Received This Dav. 12.50 p.m.) MANILA, April 22. A transport today disembarked seventeen United States Army officers and 2,058 soldiers from Fort. Mason. California. This is the largest single contingent of American soldiers ever to arrive in the Orient, focussing attention on the fact that the United States at present is spending more on military establishments in the Philippines than it has spent throughout the forty-two years since it wrested the islands from Spain.
