GLOOMY VIEW

TAKEN BY AMERICAN COLUMNISTS.

EMPHASIS ON ENORMOUS ODDS.

WASHINGTON, April 23.

American commentators believe that the British-and Anzac forces cannot stand up much longer to an enemy that is so overwhelmingly superior in the numbers of men, tanks and planes. They entered the struggle only three divisions strong, according to the columnists Messrs Alsop and Kinter, and on the other hand the Germans have been using GO divisions. The commentators argue that apart from the personal and strategical aspects of the British reverses, there is the serious factor that they are playing into the hands of the American isolationists, as every fresh setback is a blow to American aid.
