ANZAC DAY
TWENTY=S!XTH ANNIVERSARY CEREMONY ON FRIDAY. SERVICE AT MASTERTON PARK. ’ The twenty-sixth anniversary of Anzac Day falls on Friday, and will be commemorated in Masterton by a public memorial service in the Park at 10.50 a.m., under the auspices of the Wairarapa R.S.A. The service will be presided over by the Venerable Archdeacon E. J. Rich, C.F., and an appropriate service has been arranged. The Masterton Municipal Band will supply the music for the hymns. Ex-service men are to assemble at the Soldiers’ Hostel at 10.15 a.m., ready to move off at 10.40 a.m., and will be joined by the local units of the Territorial forces, Wairarapa College Cadets, the Home Guard units, drill units of the E.P.S. and the Legion of Frontiersmen. Anzac Day this year has a special and greater significance than ever in view of the fact that thousands of thepresent generation of young New Zealanders have made a landing, in April, on the shores of Greece, Britain’s ally, and the thoughts of all ex-service men and their relatives naturally turn to them on their engagement against the foes of democracy. Anzac Day will energise the spirit which will bring ultimate victory and convert April 25 to a day of national commemoration, a day which has a meaning for all the nation’s veterans of the past and those of the present war. POST OFFICE HOURS. On Anzac Day the Masterton Post Office will be closed in all branches. No mails will be despatched and postmen’s deliveries will be suspended. The Homewood and Tinui private bag services, the To Wharau private bag and rural service and the Westmere rural! service will be performed on Thursday; in lieu of Friday. The Telegraph Office will be closed. The Exchange will be open continuously.
