CHECKED & HELD

GERMAN CONVOYS CHASED OVER DESERT BOMBING FROM DAWN TO DUSK. TANKS AND OTHER VEHICLES DESTROYED. (British Official Wireless.) • RUGBY, April 19. With the Germans practically checked by the Tobruk defence, British and Australian bombers and fighters have wrought havoc in the German concentrations around Tobruk, disorganising convoys by ceaseless low-diving attacks and bombings, says a correspondent with the Middle East forces. German convoys attempting to avoid roads blocked by destroyed vehicles are chased over the desert by low-div-ing planes. From dawn to dusk, at half-hourly intervals, the bombing goes on, destroying hundreds of vehicles, including munition wagons. Around Solium the British mobile columns are chasing the enemy from that area, destroying tanks and other vehicles.
