Tank Attack on Tobruk Repelled ENEMY SUFFERS SEVERE LOSSES IN SOLLUM AREA R.A.F. STRIKING MANY EFFECTIVE BLOWS LONDON, April 20. On land and from the air British forces in North Africa are hitting' the Germans and Italians hard at all points. A Cairo communique reports that 12 German tanks which attempted to attack Tobruk were beaten off, after four had been smashed. Indian mechanised troops are among the Imperial forces defending' Tobruk. In the Solium area, British mobile columns and patrols have again caused the enemy severe losses and a number of prisoners have been taken, An R.A.F. communique states that bombers and fighters continue to inflict heavy casualties on the enemy in North Africa, where a number of enemy aircraft have been bombed and damaged? Fighters on offensive patrols have inflicted heavy casualties on enemy motorised troops, machine-gunned an aerodrome and destroyed one enemy plane ■ and damaged others. Three German planes were shot down. Further successful raids have been made on Benghagi and Tripoli.
